Why is the US educational system such that employers need candidates to demonstrate skills that the possession of an undergraduate education should have already demonstrated they possess? Having spent 30 years in quantitative finance I can tell you that being able to solve this problem via “the most mathematically elegant method” is not a relevant skill.
